The Eindhoven Branch was founded in 1946. Currently our branch comprises some 80 members. Throughout the season there`s at least one special activity a month. This is generally an illustrated lecture by a British speaker. These talks are held either in Eindhoven or Aalst/Waalre. Every year there`s a December event and an `End of Season` party - both important items on the agenda.
We try to keep room for the social element: promoting contact between members.
We are fascinated by
. Old and new British ways of life.
. Britain`s history and cultural heritage.
. Its language and literature, its art and industry.
. Its attractions and its idiosyncrasies, and ....
. How the Dutch relate to all this and have done so for hundreds of
  years.
We organize
. Interesting and instructive lectures by experienced British
  speakers
. Performances, meetings and parties in a friendly and open
atmosphere in which you will feel mutual interest and respect
. Easy way to improve your knowledge of the English language
and culture for example by creating the opportunity to practice
for your fluency during entertaining English conversation
dinners in the Academisch Genootschap in Eindhoven
. Regular newsletter during the lecture season
. End of Season party December event

Lectures

During the GNE lecture season, talks are given about once a month and unless otherwise stated, these are delivered in English. The visiting speakers are all experts in their chosen fields and their lectures are both informative and entertaining. They may feature different aspects of British life, arts and culture, places and people. Occasionally we are also treated to a traveller`s tale. Wherever possible, lectures are illustrated.
An overview of this year`s programme is given below. For more details on the talks please click talks. For the full programme with dates, venues and entry fees per branch, please click branches.
John Pilkington: A Stroll through the Axis of Evil
John`s talk is titled `A Stroll through the Axis of Evil`; Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran are in the news for all the wrong reasons. Starting in Beirut, John will unravel a picture quite different to the news stories as he followed a winding route via the Euphrates, the Caucasus and the Valley of the Assassins to finish on the Persian Gulf. John Pilkington has been called “one of Britain’s greatest tellers of travellers’ tales”. Read more...
